My understanding is that after this program was written, the company sold the rights and that company implemented the device. I guess it's to keep things secure somehow. It's just this small dongle that goes into a printer/com port.
I'm not certain that the security device is the issue. I think (I could be completely wrong) that it's a firewall/network setting that keeps interrupting it. I feel like it's a setting that windows 7 doesn't have. I feel that it's just the incompatibility of a windows 11 PC connecting to a hard drive in a PC that's running XP. I'm combing through the security settings on my win11 PC to see if I can get it to stop freezing. I will also give that COMx command.

You said the program runs correctly by one PC, not by further PC’s. This is the situation with the Windows 11 PC’s?
If not an issue of the PC’s (the program instances) identifying themselves uniquely, it would be an optimistic locking problem?
