I'm trying to run software that communicates with equipment via the serial port. The DOS software runs fine on a 32 bit OS, but the new Panasonic CF-54 laptop UEFI BIOS only supports 64 bit OS's. It won't even install 32 bit Win 10 under Hyper-V. Then I found vDos. vDos runs the software, but has an error connecting to the serial port. I added COM1 = "COM1": to the config.txt, but nothing changed. The Panasonic Toughbooks have a physical UART COM port, which is in the Windows device manager as "Communications Port (COM1)". Do you have any tips that might get this operational? Here's the two errors I wind up with: Thanks, -Vince

I have to disappoint you, the COM/serial support in vDos is too basic. It allows you to send and receive data, and mimics some status bits like RTS and CTS. But doesn’t emulate an actual UART like the 8250. One precondition is also you set the COM port parameters before starting vDos. You could try DOSBox instead.

Jos, I tried DOSBox, which also has a configuration command to map the serial port. It did the trick!
