VDos on Windows server 2016 is creating a correct #lpt3.asc file that I can copy to the default print queue and that prints correctly, but within the program itself I can choose that printer but it does not print, tells 'could not initialize printer'. Is there something I miss here? LPT3 is rerouted to that queue, no difference

What have you set in config.txt for LPT3? Eventually temporary rem-out that line, so you have to select the printer when printing to LPT3. Then correct SEL:"Invalid printer name" by the printer name you selected. Mind, LPT/COM ports in vDos are not those of Windows.
