Dear Jos
I have developed DOS-programs for the last 45 years. And some of them are still used. I would like to be able to run all of them for history sake and have tried vm-ware, virtual box, dosbox and similar. They all have something they cant do.
vDOS does it all !!
Or almost...
I cant find out how to install the DOS-commands i used e.g EDIT. Tried to make a folder with DOS, but then the vDOS freezes. I would like to use different DOS versions: 5.0, 6.22 and 7.0. Is that possible?
I am running the vDOS on a MacBookPro. Therefore i have installed it in a Windows10 in Parallels. Works fine. but the vDOS presents the "nag" popup, claiming that i am on a network which i am not. It says "Network id:Mac Username: PEW [me]" Is there something i can do about that?
Again: Great program, i know i will have much pleasure of it when i go down memory lane to visit my old programs
Best regards
Poul Erik

EDIT is an external DOS program. For whatever reason it hooks into the low level INT 9 to communicate with the keyboard. Since INT 9 isn’t implemented in vDos, EDIT won’t receive any keyboard input.
vDos only emulates MS DOS 5.0. Probably the only programs that require (check for) a later version are the supporting utilities that came with that specific DOS distribution. Those are however considered useless as standalone programs.
I’m not familiar with Parallels, a VM guest OS accesses a host OS drive by means of a virtual network connection. You would have to create a local guest (not accessible by the host) drive, or rename the network name to “local” instead of “Mac”.
Mind, vDos is intended to run DOS programs still being used. So your memory lane is partly an off-road tour.

Dear jos Thanks for your kind and quick reply Most of my programs are still containing data, so it is not only for nostalgia. But i get your point. Guess, that i will have to choose between the Parallels way and the Wineskin "wrapper" for vDos. The wrapper-version seems to work fine and i save the tour through Parallels.
Have a great easter/passover
