I can open vDOS to a command screen and type a text file > lpt1, >lpt2 and >lpt3.
I installed 3 Epson LQ-850 printers in QA4.
Any ideas why the command window will print to the ports, yet QA4 will not would be very helpful.

If you can print at the command prompt, I can’t come up with a reason why QA4 wouldn’t. vDos supports printing to DOS, the BIOS and hardware ports.
First check if the files #lpt1 (2 or 3).asc and .txt are created. If they are present, start vDos with the /log option (“…\vDos.exe” /log). The generated vDos.log should then reveal what’s going on (wrong) later on.

The LPT .asc and .txt are there. Attached is the log file. This log file doesn't look like it has much in it. Attachments:vDos.log (96 B)

At least it shows you’re using version 2014.03.14.
That didn’t much logging, nor had an internal print processor, but used DOSPrinter for printing. DOSPrinter.exe would be missing in the vDos directory? Though that neither can be, you also wouldn’t be able to print at the command prompt. What if you for instance do COPY #LPT1.ASC LPT2 at the command prompt?
Mind, I don’t support older vDos versions. So you'll have to further figure out yourself what is going on with this vDos version and (also old?) DOSPrinter.

The newer version of vDOS works and prints from Q&A no problem. It is on a Dell T310 box with W2K8 R2 Server.
I see the syntax in the config for printer setup is different than the old version, or maybe I had the syntax wrong all along in the old version?
This is the syntax I used in the old version for printing: LPT1 = /SEL'tally' /RAW
LPT2 = /SEL'tally' /RAW
LPT3 = /SEL'tally' /RAW
This is the syntax used in the new version: LPT1 = SEL: "tally"
LPT2 = SEL: "tally"
LPT3 = SEL: "tally"
I printed all three LPT's to the same printer share for simplicity. Q&A uses all 3 LPT's for different form printing from the macros.
I'l have to regroup with respect to my setup. I had planned on using the Dell box with W2K8R2 as the host for Hyper-V and running W2K3SP2 on 10 virtual servers with vDOS and Q&A hosted on the W2K3 Virtual servers. I have unlimited W2K3 licenses & RDP licenses for W2K3 server, but cannot get RDP licenses for W2K8R2 anymore. Nor can I install W2K8R2 on the virtuals unless I run a hack to activate W2K8R2.
The newer version of vDOS does not run on Windows 2K3 server.
All of you insight has been very helpful. Thanks for all your help with this.

The syntax is different to avoid confusion with or w/o DOSPrinter. Old: LPT1 = /SEL'tally' /RAW equals New: LPT1 = SEL: "tally" RAW
Don’t know why you use RDP (off site PC's?) to run vDos/Q&A, and there are alternatives like TSplus. But vDos 2016.10.01 is the last version that supports W2K3.

They use offsite Wyse Winterms and Win 10 Remote Desktop Connection's coming in through 768K DSL. Verizon is their next door neighbor and Verizon refuses to pull FIOS to them. They are working on getting cable internet.

I updated to the latest version of vDOS, 2018.05.1 and all the printing problems went away.
