Hi Jos, or anyone else who had experimented what i need to accomplish.
i have a few different Dos foxpro programs(located in the server and as well mapped to drive letter) that different users need to run, so the way to know how to do this is to install Vdos on each computer user and modify the autoexec file and add there the mappings and call the the prg file that correspond to each user and do that bu adding vdos into each individual machine with it is own autoexec and config file, no problem.
the question is : is it possible to install in one location of the server just one instance of Vdos, then create a shorctut in each machine to call that Vdos from the the server location and have the autoexec and config file residing in each workstation ? each user needs it is own autoexec because they do not run the same common foxpro dos prg file, neither they are in the same location in the server.
any help is very appreciated, if it is possible can you please give a detail explanation please ? Thanks Ernesto

Create shortcuts to the vDos.exe copy on the server. Then change the Start in Directory properties to the local directory with the autoexec and config files.

Hi Jos, sorry i am getting confused here. are you telling me to copy Vdos.exe to a shared folder on the server ? let say i have a drive letter F: mapped to shared folder named APPS, are you saying to copy vdos.exe there, then send a shortcut to the user desktop and later change the Start in Directory properties to the local directory with the autoexec and config files. ?
sorry i am confused on the Create shortcuts to the vDos.exe copy on the server
Thanks a lot in advance Ernesto

I always advice to use UNC paths instead of depend on (Windows) mapped drive letters. Alternatively you could create the dedicated autoexec and config directories also on the server. So you’ve all at a central location, nothing at the workstations besides a shortcut. You could have a look at: www.vdos.info/faqs.html - Advanced - A portable DOS application. Jos
