Clipper string to num conversion bug

I have found a problem using vDos with the clipper val function

The result of this :

val("3")

is always 2

I have tested with Clipper 5.2d, 5.3b and linking with Blinker and Exospace, the SET values doesn't seem related.

Did you ever found this issue?
In DosBox it is working ok, but failing in vDos and vDosPlus

I compiled
?VAL("3")
with Clipper 5.01 (the linker should of course not matter).

3 is shown.
