Hello,
we want to buy an unlimited license from vdos. We are running in a Workgroup, and not in a Domain.
In the Network ID field i dont see the Workgroup, i only see the Computername. How can i register it for all computers within the workgroup?

Since the Workgroup name is generally “WORKGROUP”, it’s not much to go by. If you host your data files on one of the PC’s, the name of that PC will be the Network ID for all PC’s in the Workgroup. Certainly if that PC is also used by someone, it’s recommended to replace it by a simple NAS. Without that someone interfering with the PC acting as a fileserver.

Hi Jos,
i placed vdos on a network share, so it means i need to license the server, where vdos is located and all clients can access it without the license message?
If the server changes, how can we change the license afterwards?

The Network ID is not determined by from where vDos.exe is started, vDos is fully portable.
The first non-local accessed file triggers vDos to establish the server name hosting that file and check it against that defined in the license.txt file.
You could have in autoexec.txt: USE <DOS drive letter>: <Windows path relative to the Start in Directory (\\<server-name>\<share>\[...])> or USE <DOS drive letter>: \\<server-name>\<share>\[...] or USE <DOS drive letter>: <Windows drive letter of NET USE (\\<server-name>\<share>\[...])>:\[…]
All resolve to the same <server-name> as the Network ID.
You can’t change the license.txt file, that would invalidate it. You would have to ask me for a new license.txt file. As long I’m satisfied you’re not pulling my leg (using vDos on a different network), that will be of no charge.

No, you would only need a new license file if the name changes of the ‘server’ hosting your (the DOS programs) data.
