Hi Jos,
I am trying to print from Alpha 4v7 to a dos printer, a Panasonic KX-P1624. I have the printer installed as a Panasonic 1600 series and a Epson LQ (which it emulates) in Alpha 4. How do I edit the config to do this. I have read thru the pdf and seems to be geared toward using the windows print drivers. I'd like to just print directly from Alpha4 in vdos to the printer. It's installed on LPT1 on a Windows 7 machine. I have all the command codes for my various forms setup in the alpha4 printer configuration. I tried different config lines, LPT1="Panasonic 1600 Series" and LPT1="Epson LQ Series 1 (136)". Both fail to initialize. I tried the line in your sample from the PDF, LPT1 = spool font: "Courier New" horz:20,10,132 . I got a prompt for <ctrl-s> which brings me to the windows print dialog. The first time I tried this it didn't print until I closed vdos, but it printed the form exactly as it should. However after that first print, it prints in the wrong type size and spacing. Is what I'm trying to do possible in vdos or do I need a third party dos print program to do this?
Thank You Jeff C

If LPT1="Panasonic 1600 Series" and LPT1="Epson LQ Series 1 (136)" fail to initialize, the printer names will be incorrect/nonexistent. Eventually rename them (in Windows and vDos config.txt) to Panasonic and Epson, so there will at least be no confusing with single/multiple spaces. If you’re happy with the printer doing the formatting/rendering of the ASCII text, add the RAW option to LPT1=….

Jos,
What would be the proper format for the line in the config. I tried putting RAW into the line but I always get an error when I launch vdos. I tried , LPT1 = "EPSON LQ Series 1(136) RAW, and LPT1 = SEL:"EPSON LQ Series 1(136)" RAW. Also should I be using the name Windows uses for the Printer or the name Alpha4 uses?
Thank You

It should be LPT1=SEL:"Panasonic" RAW or LPT1=SEL:"Epson" RAW. Assuming you renamed the printers in Windows (the previous longer ones were not recognized by vDos). And you can of course only use one LPT1= directive, else you have to omit the SEL: option, so the Windows printer selection dialog will popup. Alpha4 printer names have only a meaning in your program, vDos will only deal with the DOS printer port (LPTx/COMx).

Thank You. Renaming and adding raw fixed the problem.
