Running a very old program called QuickQuote.
Currently, using vDos 2015.10.01 on Windows 7 Professional is working fine.
Trying to prepare new Windows 10 workstations. Using vDos 2022.05.01.
I had to make some changes to options in the config.txt file, but otherwise, it appears to be working correctly. With one exception.
To exit/close the program, you press the ESC key.
What is happening on the Windows 10 workstations using vDos 2022.05.01 is that when you press the ESC key, it is going into a reindex process. The "normal" way to go into the reindex process is you have to go to the main menu and select the option.
NOTE: it is not a reindex issue, as the existing Windows 7 workstations using vDos 2015.10.01 exit correctly when the ESC key is pressed.
Any ideas, suggestions or help is welcome.

I never heard of QuickQuote, so no real idea what’s going on.
Guess the program goes into the exit procedure, but that somehow concludes an index file is incorrect or outdated. Therefor starting the reindex process.
You will have ensured the autoexec.txt files match. But what if you copy vDos 2015.10.01 to a Windows 10 PC, and run that version?

The 2015 version is working fine.

If you verified QuickQuote runs under the same conditions. No program configuration mismatch, some environment variable or command line switch missing, QuickQuote would be one of two programs having troubles in newer vDos versions?

Reindexing is mostly done by a separate external program since it is often an utility of the database manager and requires exclusive access to data and index files. I guess your startup batch file could so have something like:
… QQ.EXE IF ERRORLEVEL 100 GOTO reindex EXIT :reindex REINDEX.EXE
If so, rem-out REINDEX.EXE (or whatever).
