Does vDos have a default screen font? If no font is specified in the config.txt file, vDos still appears to display a decent font with useful ASCII graphic symbols. What font is it? And is there also a default printer font? Is there a list of useful/recommended Windows fonts available?

The default font for the screen and printing are the same and internal. There is a wide variant exclusively for the screen. And a bold one mainly for printing.
Most graphic symbols for the screen, although defined in the font, are composed by software. So you get for instance a real shaded block instead of some pixel pattern.
You can instead use any monospaced TTF font, Consolas will then be selected most often for the screen, Courier New for printing. Apart from the shaded graphic symbols, line drawing symbols will then be displayed as defined by the font. So you get more prominent, thicker and eventually double lines.

No, those who set an external font, mostly choose Consolas.
