Hi:
I am migrating an old DOS application for a bank in Colombia. I am trying Vdos for run it, and DOS2USB for printing, since this application accepts only LPT1 port for print bank statements (using a template).
All the testst I done were ok in my computer, and I installed Vdos and printing software two weeks ago in the bank. Vdos is excellent for run the application, and all seemed to be ok. I made tests printing different bank staments and all worked fine.
But yesterday, doing the final tests, in order to proceed to buy Vdos and Dos2usb, the bank statements printed ok only the first page; the second one, or the third, didn´t fit along with the template. I attach one example good, and one example bad. I am not sure which of the softwares caused the error, or it is because of the lack of the license file.
Thanks for your support, I am from Colombia, South America.

Hard to tell who is to blame vDos or DOS2USB. I also don’t know why you use DOS2USB at all since vDos has a DOS-to-Windows print processor built in, that would be more versatile than DOS2USB. Certainly at scaling and positioning printer output. To investigate the cause I would need the LPT1.ASC file vDos generates to accommodate DOS2USB. Though I would advise you to just use vDos printing (initially remove the LPT1= directive from config.txt), and read the Printing.pdf document for options, like scaling and positioning adjustments. Then at some time replace the ‘template’ by a vector oriented PDF file and use some PDF printing tool to get the best printing result. BTW, there's an example of a 'template'/stationary at: www.vdos.info/6067.pdf. Zoom in and look at the quality of your PDF's and that, even smaller in size. Jos

Hi Jos:
Thanks for your soon answer. I read many times the printing.pdf document, which is the vdos directory, but I couldn´t get any results, specially using a template. That´s the reason I decided to use dos2usb. Of course, I would be very pleased using only Vdos for access the application and for print from there, directly.
Perhaps I did not understand where, or how to put the lines in the config.txt file, for use and position correctly the template. If anyone else could help me, for example, using a config.txt file using templates, I appreciate that! The template is called extracto.jpg, but when I print it, vdos does nothing.
Thanks again, and btw, the example you refer to, that´s exactly the result the bank expects from Vdos.

vDos print engine doesn’t support graphics. That is intentionally, graphic bitmap images like your extracto.jpg just pulls down the average quality of a printout dramatically. Certainly you shouldn’t handout digital copies like those two examples. At www.vdos.info/faqs.html - Printing - Digital printing with stationary (PDF) the process of merging DOS programs output with stationary is briefly discussed. You primary need a PDF version of the stationary, vector based, so the final document is of the best quality, while the smallest size (if digital). The merging process is done by the PDF printer because those are specialized at dealing with additional and possibly complex wishes. Like another template for page 2 and on, archiving and naming the PDF file, adding a (digital) signature… When you have that PDF template, it’s merely choosing a PDF printer depending on how complex the merging process will be. Positioning and scaling the DOS program output to fit nicely within the template is then a matter of an onetime experimenting with the HORZ and VERT directives. Jos
