Hello.
I'm trying to run an old (ancient) software through vDos. The software has a handful of .exe and .bat. Some of them seem to be working fine, but the main one is giving problems. Currently, I think there is a problem with the graphics card/drivers, which seem to be very specific.
If I try to run the .exe, the error I get is:
"Error initializing graphics: device does not respond"
I tried running a graphics-related .exe that was also in the bunch of files that make up the software, namely S3VBE20.EXE
When I run that one, I get some lines, and from them I reach this "help message":
Installs a VESA VBE/Core 2.0 for S3 graphics cards with a VESA VBE 1.2.
S3VBE20 [VBE20[+|-]] [LINEAR[+|-]] [LOWRES[+|-]] [ /INSTALL [/LOW]
| /CHECK | /LOAD [/LOW] | /UNLOAD ]
VBE20 Enable VESA VBE/Core 2.0 extensions.
LINEAR Enable linear frame buffer support.
LOWRES Enable low resolution video modes support.
/INSTALL Installs S3 VBE/Core 2.0 and enables all features.
/CHECK Checks if S3 VBE/Core 2.0 is installed.
/LOAD Installs S3 VBE/Core 2.0.
/LOW Do not load high.
/UNLOAD Removes S3 VBE/Core 2.0 from memory.
Simply type "S3VBE20 /INSTALL" to install S3 VBE/Core 2.0 in memory.
All options may be abbreviated (e.g. LOW- or /I).
If I try to use S3VBE20/INSTALL I end up with this:
And that's as far as I've managed to go. I tried googling for some "S3 drivers", but nothing I've found seems to get me any further than this point. I'm vaguely guessing that I need to somehow emulate having an S3 card, but the few resources I've found online haven't moved the situation from this point.
Any ideas?
