Latest VDOS priority set to HIGH causes lag on system

Hi,

i am having problems with latest VDOS 2021.05.01 EXE file size 620280 bytes with laging system. It doesnt happen all the time, but random. It causes other programs to stop working (lag) significantly.

When i change priority to Normal in Task manager it solves the problem.

I tried to create some type of shortcut to force vdos.exe to set priority to normal, but it didnt work.

Is there any fix for this?

The high priority setting of vDos only gives it a slight advantage over other programs competing for CPU attention.
Giving it then a more stable peak performance. But vDos is mostly idle (returning processor time back to Windows).

Even if vDos is running at peak performance, it shouldn’t degrade other programs performance that much.
Have a look at www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSo7hYFHA7g. vDos, DOSBox and dbDOSv (and ScreenRec) running alongside. vDos’ CPU load is only marginal higher.

You have a minimal system with only one core?

vDos sets its priority at startup, so overriding any setting beforehand.

It is Intel CPU I5-6500 with 4 cores on Windows 7 64-bit Professional. SSD M.2 Samsung Evo 980. System is working really stable and fast.
I did not find any other reason for this performance lag except vDos.
But it could be some other program that i just didn't find yet.

Then you could take a screenshot of Task Manager (Process Explorer…), vDos limiting the CPU usage of other programs?

If it’s a system wide degradation, some program would instead pull the SSD to the max?

If lagging occurs and i press Ctrl-Alt-Del, to start Task Manager, it takes some time. Normally it reacts in split second.
Eventualy it will show up and if I lower vDos priority everything starts working normal.

Don’t lower vDos priority since your system is already responsive again for whatever reason…

Or keep Task Manager open and on top…

Or minimized and have a look at the Performance data as lagging occurs…
