Database with simple search basic that will run in vdos
most windows programs are crap
title for note: note space
menu opens 1. add note. 2. search title only 3. search note area 4. exit
This will be like a 3x5 index card
used to keep notes

Even DOS database programs will be too complicated for your simple task.
Can't you just use for instance Notepad, like: #Title1 Notes1 #Title2 Notes2 ...

Thanks for reply
We have them on index cards now
I have tried cherry tree, az card file
if you have looked at any of these they use a tree like web site and they do work ok
I may be stuck using windows
I have program Rolodex in dos and wow it's great never have found anything like it and it runs in vdos great and others that have seen it really like how it looks and works
many have written a music collection program in dos but the NOTES section lacks in them all
that is why looking for note type program we have 1000's of notes for songs and looking at way to do this.

Try VP-Info/Sharkbase, it's a free download from some sources or you can purchase single/multi-user versions online. Lots of free online documentation and example code. Goto www.Sharkbase.ca for a free look. Runs 100% on vDOS.

All the info is there at www.sharkbase.ca ; a free download of the original VP-Info release can be found on freeware sites. The later multi-using, multi-tasking Shark with sample programs & utilities is a C$25 PayPal download at sharkbase.ca. The programming language is identical, but the later Shark edition is much more powerful in terms of file limits and concurrent users. They both share the same online documentation. You can start with one and switch to the other "painlessly".

garyw,
I'm new here, so just seen your message.
I've got something fairly close to what you ask for, part of a prog of my own. I could easily change to do what you ask for. Purely DOS prog, using .dbf datafile with attached memo. Not very efficient data size-wise, but these days that's not important?
Need to discuss size of memo window, I could easily assume 3x5 index card size.
Search would need adding, esp as I assume you want to look for words anywhere in text (title or memo/notes). Normal process doesn't work that way, so this would need to be 'hand-crafted', but not a big deal. Could make search as 'clever' as you want, i.e. define n items, and allow AND and/or OR. The 'editor' for the memo isn't too clever, but it's functional. The bulk of the code comes out of an existing library.
Quite happy to work on an 'evolutionary' basis. I send you an initial version, you ask for changes, repeat, until it's OK.
No charge.
Geoff
