Hello, I am having an issue printing to an old dos based payroll program with the column layout. Some of the reports have to be compressed for width and some don't. I am able to make changes to my config.txt file via the HORZ setting. The problem is that I have to restart vDos for the changes to take effect for reports of different width. Is there a way to change settings in the config.txt file without having to restart vDos for them to take affect?

The settings in config.txt can’t be changed at runtime.
Programs that require a variable number characters per line either set the CPI or the paper orientation by printer control codes. Though the latter is only supported by PCL, not ESC/P (Epson).
If the payroll program doesn’t offer that, this would be an issue since it was put to use once. If you can select a printer (LPT1, LPT2…), define those with different HORZ settings in config.txt. Else omit SEL: and set the page orientation in the printer selection dialog to portrait or landscape. Or create an additional directory with autoexec.txt and config.txt for wider prints with a corresponding HORZ: setting.
